Alle Studenten mit Sommerjob in Houston wurden heute von den Ölbossen persönlich in einem Konzertsaal begrüßt. Es gab Vorträge von Experten der Ölbranche aber auch von Wissenschaftlern die sich mit Körpersprache und Verhaltensweisen im Jobleben auskannten. Ich habe viel gelernt und könnte mich an so ein Leben im Ölbusiness gewöhnen. Houston scheint die einzige Stadt der USA zu sein, die von der Wirtschaftskrise verschont wurde. Es wurde sehr viel Euphorie versprüht und, so kam es mir gar vor, jeden eine tolle Zukunft voraus gesagt, der hier anfangen will. Es fing damit an, dass nach jedem Vortrag ein Unterhaltungsgerät verlost wurde. Um die 10 Elektronikspielzeuge, wie Digicams, BlueRayPlayer, Playstation oder Laptops gingen raus. Ich war einer der Glücklichen und gewann einen IPod-touch mit 50$ Gutschein für Musik.
Anschließend machte sich ein Komiker über uns Lustig und Shell und Halliburton sponsorte seinen Studenten noch ein drei Gänge Menü in einem Privatclub mit orientalischem Ambiente.
/All students with summer job in Houston were personally „saluted“ (how they expressed it) by the Oil business executives in a concert hall. There were presentations from experts in the oil business but also from scientists studying body language and behaviors at work. I learned a lot and could get used to a life in the oil business. Houston, as it seemed, is the only city in the US that is not affected by the crisis. They spread a lot of euphoria and it felt to me like they promised everyone a bright future who wanted to work here. It started with giving out a gadget after each presentation. 10 devices like cameras, BlueRayPlayer, Playstation and even laptops were given away. I was one of the lucky ones and can call myself an owner of an IPod Touch with 50$ gift card for music.
Afterwards a comedian joked about us and Shell and Halliburton sponsored their students a 3 course meal in a private dining club with middle eastern flair.
